Why Locals Love Gong Gan
Nestled in the heart of Duisburg at Am Buchenbaum 20, Gong Gan invites you on an authentic culinary journey through vibrant Korean flavors. This Korean restaurant stands out not only for its rich, traditional cuisine but also for its welcoming atmosphere that makes every guest feel at home.
The menu at Gong Gan is a treasure trove of sensory delights. Start with their Feurig specialty, Tteokbokki (떡볶이): soft, chewy rice cakes drenched in a spicy, fiery sauce that can be customized with boiled eggs, fish cake, or mozzarella – and for those who prefer plant-based options, a thoughtfully crafted vegan version is also available. Each bite bursts with warmth and subtle smokiness, evoking the smoky street food stalls of Seoul.
For rice dish aficionados, Gong Gan offers an impressive range. The Gebratener Kimchi-Reis (김치볶음밥) is a spicy stir-fried rice with homemade kimchi and egg, perfectly balanced with the creamy melt of optional mozzarella. Vegans can indulge too, with a tofu variant that maintains that umami-packed essence. Another highlight is the Dakgalbi (닭갈비), where tender chicken is stir-fried with either a spicy Gochujang sauce or a milder soy-based marinade, served with a generous portion of fluffy rice. The marination here is vibrant and laced with a harmonious blend of spices that both comforts and excites the palate.
The Bibimbab offerings excel in freshness and color—each Korean rice bowl topped with either egg or tofu, alongside a rainbow of vegetables like potatoes, carrots, zucchini, soybean sprouts, and pickled radish. Whether topped with the fiery kick of Gochujang or the subtle sweetness of teriyaki sauce, these bowls are a celebration of texture and flavor that spark joy with every forkful.
What truly sets Gong Gan apart is the consistent praise from diners across Duisburg and beyond. Loyal customer AJ hails it as “one of the best restaurants in Duisburg” with “plenty of vegan options,” making it a beloved spot for diverse dietary preferences. Alice H found the generous portions of their Jjampong (a seafood noodle soup) and Jeyuk (spicy pork) delicious and worth revisiting to explore more of the menu. Anh Nguyen, originally from Düsseldorf, was utterly captivated by the best Jjampong she has ever had, highlighting the owner's warmth and the exceptional quality of the food. Frequent visitors like V N repeatedly praise the hearty, protein-packed rice bowls, noting the meticulous marination that elevates the meats to a savory masterpiece, even if just slightly on the saltier side.
Dining at Gong Gan is more than just a meal—it’s a nourishing experience filled with bold tastes, fresh ingredients, and heartfelt hospitality. The staff’s friendliness and attentiveness enhance the vibrant, cozy ambiance, inviting you to relax and savor every bite. One of the best restaurants in Duisburg. Plenty of vegan options.

We ordered Jjampong and Jeyuk. Portions were large, jjampong (seafood) was very tasty, jeyuk too much gojuchang for our liking, however we would still come back to try other dishes

The best Jjampoong I've ever had so far :) As a big fan of Jjampoong, I always order this dish at a lot of Korean restaurants in Düsseldorf - where I live. In a weekend trip with friends to Duisburg, we walked by Gong Gan restaurant and when I saw Jjampoong on the menu, I gave it a try immediately. I was fully amazed by the owner's friendliness and of course the food when they arrived! My bowl of Jjampoong was literally FULL of seafood toppings (which is the main idea of having a "Spicy seafood noodle soup" right?) <3 With the similar price, I think I actually had way more seafood toppings compared to all the restaurants I've tried that offering this dish. The broth was rich and "umami", the spicy level is a bit lower than my normal "spicy" definition but i asked for extra chilli so it was fireee xP Unfortunately I did not take photos of my friends' dish but I promise you will not regret choosing Gong Gan when you crave Korean foods in Duisburg :)

This restaurant is truly one that I highly recommend! We’ve been here three times, and each time we tried different menu items. Every dish we ordered tasted amazing. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. They also offer a member card for their customers, which is a nice bonus. Overall, we really enjoyed dining here and would definitely recommend this restaurant!

I’ve visited this place for the 2nd time and will be coming back more I’ve promised myself to visit at least once a month to enjoy their delicious rice bowls hereeee (might try other things, but their rice bowls are just ). Nothing beats the price for such a generous portion - protein and veggies are fully loaded! The meats are well-marinated, though personally I find them just a bit salty (?)Banchan are salty too. Thats one star deducted for food Free banchan! (Some Korean restaurants don’t offer that for free ). In short: price/quality = The staffs are friendly and always interact with you with a smile (she still remembered me when I came back, which was touching). I guess they’re very customer-centric It’s a cozy, Korean-style spot that reminds me more of a cute coffee shop than a typical restaurant~~ That’s why I think it’s totally worth the trip back and forth from Düsseldorf to Duisburg ^^ — update: my 3rd visit ^^ still delicious as always

I visited this Korean restaurant yesterday, and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was exceptional — full of bold, authentic flavors that really hit the spot. I had the dakgalbi, and it was absolutely delicious — perfectly spicy, tender, and well-balanced. The service was also top-notch: friendly, attentive, and efficient. I would definitely recommend it!

I had an amazing experience at this Korean restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious. The kimchi jjigae was outstanding — perfectly spicy, rich, and comforting. I also tried the vegetarian pancake, which was a gift from the owner, and it was simply amazing. Honestly, I’ve never had a pancake that tasted this good anywhere else. The kind gesture and the incredible flavors made the visit unforgettable. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving authentic Korean cuisine!
